2009 jeep patriot manual, still learning to drive stick, stalled out today and engine light came on?

Could it just be a warning that I was being hard on it stalling, or bigger? My husband took over driving and it is shifting fine, no weird noises, running great, but engine light is on right as I stalled it. We have a diagnostic machine, should we just reset the light and see if it comes back on and/or look at the reading and take it very seriously. What do you think it will say? (friend is returning it tomorrow)

well if you have a scanning tool check to see what code is coming up. That will tell you what the problem is. If there is no problem, the light would not stay on.

there's nothing wrong with it,what happens when it stalled out is one of the many sensors lost voltage and the info.went to the computer which turned on the warning light.this happens more often then you can think and people will tell go to autozone or a repair shor and have them check it out for you.but all that does is show you the codes of the senors.so here's what you do disconnect your battery ground cable from your battery wait 15sec, then hook back up and that will reset the computer and the light will go out.good luck on learning how to drive a stick once you learn it it's a blast

The "engine light" is always lit when you first turn the key to the 'on' position and should go off when the engine is started. If you stall the motor, the light will again be lit, until the motor is started again...it is this way for all vehicles

You should start by finding a MUCH older vehicle to use to LEARN to drive a stick shift. You don't want to DESTROY a brand new car.

Next you should actually READ the code that triggered the check engine light before you clear it. That way if it comes back, you can at least determine if you are getting the same code.
