I am thinking of trading in my 2005 Tahoe to get a Jeep Patriot or Ford Escape...way better MPG and still an SUV. Does anyone out there have one yet, or have anything good or bad to say about these two options?

Neither one is an SUV, they are just SUV shaped minivans. Funny how Jeep calls their 2.4 engine a "world engine" when it is very far from it.

On the other hand, the wussy 4 banger FWD versions of both will get decent gas milage (compared to other new cars)

The Patriot looks pretty cool. I checked one out at my local Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep dealer at it seems to be a pretty nce vehicle. Definitley better than a Ford Escape. Ford escapes have too high of a rollover risk. They have had numerous "tip-ups" in the fast lane change tests by the NHTSA .

Ford Escapes are too narrow and cramped inside. Plus I am sure the Jeep is more durable than the Ford.

I have one on order. I can't wait. They are in demand and in some areas hard to come by cause of the demand. I will say I've heard a lot of great things about them. There a few things that annoy owners but they are small things.
Go to http://www.jeeppatriot.com and check out the forum. There is a lot of great information several owners and soon to be owners like me there.

You might check out the '07 Cherokee w/the 3.0 Mercedes diesel in it. conservative estimates rate it @ 24 mpg hwy and you get more power from your fuel with a diesel. I wouldn't be surprised to see close to 30 mpg with good driving habits.
