Why does my 06 Chrysler 300 get such bad milage?
I recently bought a 2006 Chysler 300 Touring, used with 15000 miles. Its supposed to get 19mpg in the city but the best Ive seen is 11mpg? What could I do? This is ridiculous.

That is a Chrysler engine for you. Their gas mileage is absolutely horrible, especially their V-6's

Change the air filter and drive slower, you probably do alot of city driving too, that will lower your gas mileage

Why does my 06 Chrysler 300 get such bad milage?
OK, let me guess... It's got a Hemi engine with full-time all-wheel drive!
Chrysler vehicles are not well known for good fuel mileage anyway. A relatively heavy car with a big engine and four-wheel drive is not going to get great mileage no matter what you do to it. Next time, buy a Prius. |

ever think thats why they got rid of it you really need it checked put it on the machine and see what might be bad it could be the sensors or air cleaner tires improper air could be egr problem but then again what the said on the window is not really what they get you have a v6 or v8 that sound about right in town 12 to 14 on the highway is better 17 to 20

I believe you have the 3.5 V-6 and not the Hemi V-8 if you have a Touring and not a 300-C, unless you have an AWD model the mileage is way out of round, take it to a Chrysler dealer and let them do a complete tune-up and check the injection system, yes I know what that costs but with the price of fuel any improvement would more than pay for it. Ask the Service Adviser for Specific Details and tell them what you want and require authorization before any added repairs are put on the repair order-that should help keep the cost down.

Why does my 06 Chrysler 300 get such bad milage?
It is rated 19 mpg using real gasoline, not the crap we are buying that they CALL gasoline (ethanol blended with other garbage in it). It has 20% LESS energy than the older, more polluting gas we used to buy, but we have to burn 20% MORE gas to do the same thing we did with the old gas. Makes no sense. BTW, I am NOT talking about E-85 which is even worse.
Also, in the winter, your gas has even LESS energy because it's formulated to start easier in cold temps. What you can do: Check that your tires are not underinflated from the cold. Check and adjust to meet the door jamb recommendations. If you use a remote starter, stop using it. While your car warms up, you are getting ZERO mpg, and THAT kills your mpg computation worse than you might think. Your fuel injectors are pumping a very rich mixture while the car is going nowhere. Bottom line too...You can't violate certain laws...Regardless of whether it's a Toyota, GM, Ford, or Chrysler...If you have a V8, your gas mileage is going to be bad, all within a couple of MPG. Same is basically true for the V6's too- they are all going to be close regardless of who makes them with displacement being a factor, as well as driving habits. Lastly, ratings are arrived at the same way by all the manufacturers, using the same criteria. Added: Did you know that running your defroster uses the same components as running your A/C? Many people run the DEF all the time in cool weather, and their mileage suffers even more. I use it only when I need it. The HEAT positions do not use the A/C compressor. |

Why does my 06 Chrysler 300 get such bad milage?
It only has 15,000 on it so it's still under the 3 year 36,000 mile bumper to bumper warrenty. You could run a carfax on it to see if it has a long service record.I owned an 05 300c and had more problems then I thought it should have.Fuel mileage and drive train performance were excellent but I had electrical and fit and finish problems plus the continental tires were garbage. While it was under warrenty Chrysler fixed everything no questions asked but I thought they could have had better technicians.Take it to the nearest 5 star dealer and let them service it.If the dealer you bought it from isn't five star there is a reason.Good luck

Is it a Hemi? If so, that's your answer.
If not, do you have the AC on? Do you accelerate quickly? There are other factors of gas milage other than the cars engine. Just like the Prius had a so-called 60 MPG, yea that fell down over 20 MPG because they didn't include any basic things, like AC, speed, ect. So take those things into consideration before saying that car has horrible MPG's, because it might be you. |
