Chrysler 300 with Broken inner and outer tie rods.?
I have a Chrysler 300 with both a broken inner and outer tie rod. How much should I expect to pay to get this fixed. Steering is degraded and suspension seems to be damaged also. I've been quote $1100 but this seems kind of high.

dealer labor should be $100-$130 per tie rod and another $100-$130 for the front end alignment. not sure on the parts prices.

Chrysler 300 with Broken inner and outer tie rods.?
You don't say what year your 300 is, it could be an older LH body style (2004 or older), or a newer LX body style (2005 and newer). I'm guessing that it's either well over 3 years old, and/or has well over 36k miles and is out of warranty (If it happens to be just outside warranty, it's worth asking the dealer if they can cover it since tie rods should last much longer than that).
Older body style, inners about $90 each, outers about $60 each. Newer body style, inners about $60 each, outers about $50 to $65 each (the more expensive is for AWD). Those prices are for Chrysler parts, aftermarket is generally a bit less than that, sometimes a lot less. Labor should be in the $150 range per side, and alignment should be around $100 (of course, labor rates vary wildly depending on your location). Smaller cities usually have lower labor rates than larger metro areas. So, it should be more like $650 to $800 total for the repair (plus taxes, of course). I'd suggest taking it to another shop to get a second opinion and cost estimate, or even simply call and ask a few different shops what it would cost to replace them all for a worst case scenario estimate (in case all 4 really do need replaced). Make sure they include an alignment in the estimate, they should include it, but mention it to be sure. If it was a dealership repair center that gave the quote, if there's any other Chrysler Dodge or Jeep dealers locally, call them and ask them for a price, some dealers are more expensive than others. (Some dealerships actually charge OVER suggested list prices!) BTW, if the steering is only degraded, the tie rods are not yet broken, they'd be merely worn out. A broken tie rod would result in loss of control over that wheel all together (it'll go where it wants when they break). You want to avoid that before they do actually break by having them replaced while simply worn out. Content provided by Yahoo Answers. |

I agree with Mark that do consult with another shop about how much do they estimate, then you can compare the cost.

RE: Chrysler 300 with Broken inner and outer tie rods.?
I think they would cost in total of about $600-$700 because they will not be only fixing your rods but they have also have to buy a steering and suspension in order to get this fixed properly.
