Any tips to help drive my 94 jeep cherokee smoother?

I just received a 94 jeep cherokee 4 cylinder 5 speed as a hand me down and Im still getting used to it as it is my first stick shift car. I know how to drive it so so but i would like to be able to operate it more smoothly and comfortably. Any tips or anything to help me get used to it as to what speeds it should be changing gears at? Thanks!

My automatic typically doesn't shift much higher than 2500 rpm Try shifting in the 2000-2500 rpm range
