It's as if the ignition switch is locked but there is no lock button. I tried a spare key and that won't work either. Do I call a locksmith or a car repair shop?

Have you tried wiggling the steering wheel while trying to turn the key?
It's a common safety feature in modern cars for the steering and ignition systems to lock up when the steering wheel is turned more than just a few degrees after the key is removed. |

I would just go to the car repair shop, chances are it will have to be replaced anyway and you will have to take it there, the locksmith probably won't be able to solve the problem because one of the pins inside the lock which permit the lock to turn are bent. So you would probably have to end up replacing the ignition module either way.

Call any local dealership, someone will be able to help you. Try what the last person said.
I had a 02 dodge caravan and it locked on me and on that car, I had to put in the key while pressing the brake and turn the wheel and it unlocked. You may have to play with it for a bit (took me about 15 min to get the right combo) also make sure you are firmly in park. |

If these suggestions don't work, try this: insert the key into the ignition all the way, get a hammer or mallet and with light to medium force hit the head of the key as if you are trying to push it further into the hole (you probably have a stuck tumbler in the ignition lock cylinder and this method will shake it loose!). While tapping the head of the key try turning it with medium force (a pair of pliers is useful to help grip and turn the key). This should shake loose the tumbler. Otherwise a good locksmith can come out to your van and repair the lock. Good luck.
