P0700 Transmission Control System Malfunction

This can be caused by anything in the trans. Drain the fluid and change the filter, replace new fluid and it should be fine.

Symptom: The transmission does not upshift or it upshifts late. MIL may be illuminated and transmission codes may be stored.

Problem: The Transmission Output Shaft Speed Sensor has high resistance.
Test & Fix: The Transmission Output Shaft Speed Sensor produces an AC voltage. A labscope may show an acceptable waveform but often the resistance of the sensor is high enough to reduce the output voltage enough so that the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) does not recognize the signal. Disconnect the 2-wire connector from the Transmission Output Shaft Speed Sensor. Measure the resistance of the Transmission Output Shaft Speed Sensor. If the resistance is higher than 800 ohms, replace the Transmission Output Shaft Speed Sensor.

P0700 means that the engine controller has seen a trouble code in the transmission controller. It can be anything from low fluid, to a loose connection, to an internal problem in the transmission. The two controllers (engine and trans.) are usually in the same ECU, mounted on the engine side of the firewall in front of the passenger. Without a scan tool, you have no idea what the transmission code is, or where the problem lies. Your best option is to have a dealer scan the codes and do a quick check. Most will do it for around 1/2 hour labour. Common problems are with the governor pressure sensor and solenoids, or the lockup torque converters. There may be a computer update available to cure your trouble as well. That's the reason to take it to a dealer. They have access to more information than your average shop and it usually winds up being a cheaper repair in the long run.

P0700 is just a code to tell you that you have codes in your tcm(transmission controll module) you need a scanner that is better than what autozone can give you.
